Gift Oluwayomi Sado: Building a Career Around People, Systems and Possibilities

Gift Oluwayomi Sado

Gift Oluwayomi Sado is a Human Resources and Corporate Services professional with nearly a decade of experience across Financial Services, Education, Logistics and Supply Chain, Wellness, Consulting and Professional Services. She currently serves as Head of Corporate Services at Alliance Chemicals Global, where her work spans the company’s operations in Nigeria and Kenya.

Her career has taken her through organisations including SEO Africa, Kuramo Capital, Kelmarid Holdings (Squareme), Kobo360 and BEYOND Fitness, before her current role at Alliance Chemicals Global. She holds an Executive Master’s degree in International Human Resource Management from Rome Business School and VIU – Universidad Internacional de Valencia, where she graduated with distinction. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

What I find interesting about Gift is not just the career she has built in Human Resources; it is what she is doing with the experience she has gathered along the way.

Alongside her corporate career, Gift is building Career Insights with Gift Sado, a platform designed to help young people better understand the world of work and prepare for their careers.

Interestingly, Gift studied Zoology at the University of Ibadan. Today, she works in Human Resources, helping organisations manage their people and build the systems they need to grow.

Her career took a different direction from her original field of study. And look at what she is doing with that experience now.

Through her work in HR, Gift has seen how organisations recruit, what they expect from employees and the skills people need to grow professionally. She has also seen young people trying to figure out how to enter the workplace, which opportunities to pursue and how to position themselves for the future.

And this is where Career Insights comes in.

For two years, Gift had wanted to build the platform. She changed her LinkedIn banner, wrote introductory posts and even set calendar reminders to help herself get started.

But work got busy, and the idea kept getting pushed aside.

Eventually, she decided to stop waiting and start with what she could manage. She created an Instagram page and challenged herself to post every day for 30 days.

Something she had been thinking about for two years was finally taking shape.

As she began creating content, she became clearer about the gap she wanted to address. From reviewing CVs, participating in hiring decisions and working with people in the workplace, Gift had seen how many young people only started thinking seriously about their careers when they were ready to look for a job.

By then, some important decisions had already been made. The internships they pursued, the skills they developed and the experiences they gained could all influence the opportunities available to them.

Gift wanted young people to start having these conversations earlier.

That is what Career Insights with Gift Sado is about. The platform is designed for final-year students, National Youth Service Corps members, recent graduates and early-career professionals who want to understand the world of work and prepare for the opportunities ahead of them.

And when you think about it, these are questions many young people have.

What should I be doing while I am still in school? How do I make an internship count? What do employers actually look for beyond a degree? How do I stand out when I do not yet have years of work experience? And when I finally get a job, how do I make the most of the opportunity?

These are some of the things Gift explores through her content.

In one of her posts, she discussed learning agility during the first three years of a career. Her advice was practical: when given a task you do not fully understand, make a reasonable first attempt, do your research, identify where you are stuck and then ask for specific help. It is a small habit, but it separates people who wait to be taught from people who learn how to work.

I like this because professional growth is not just about getting a job. It is also about learning how to work, how to take initiative and how to handle responsibilities you may not have encountered before.

Gift has also taken these conversations offline, directly to young people. At a career panel during the Global Access Conference at the University of Ibadan, her alma mater, she spoke about what employers look for beyond a degree. It is a subject that fits naturally into the work she is building through Career Insights: helping young people understand what it takes to move from what they have learnt to what they can do in the workplace.

Career Insights sits alongside two other strands of her work, outside her corporate role.

Gift provides HR consulting support to early-stage founders and growing businesses. This includes recruitment, payroll, HR policies and processes, and the people-related challenges that come with building and managing a team. Think about it. A growing business needs the right people, and it also needs the structures to manage those people well. Gift is able to bring her corporate HR experience into that process and help businesses think through what they need.

She also works one-on-one with job seekers on their CVs. And this goes beyond arranging qualifications and work experience on a page. She helps people communicate their skills, experience and value in a way that speaks to the opportunities they are looking for.

When you put these different parts of Gift’s work together, you begin to see the connection.

She helps businesses think through the people they need. She helps job seekers present themselves better to employers. And she helps young people prepare for the world of work before they have to figure everything out on their own.

Different activities, but a common thread: people and their development.

What next?

Gift is now taking Career Insights beyond social media contents into developing curated learning experiences such as workshops, webinars, masterclasses and courses. The platform has a masterclass planned for November, giving young professionals another opportunity to learn beyond the content shared on social media. The goal is to give young professionals more room to learn, ask questions and build the skills they need to navigate their careers.

Looking at Gift’s journey from studying Zoology to building a career in human resources and now developing Career Insights, what stands out to me is how she is using her professional experience to address a need she has identified.

She has spent years working with organisations and understanding what it takes to recruit, manage and develop people. Now, she is taking some of that knowledge beyond the workplace to support growing businesses, job seekers and young professionals who are still finding their way.

And I think that is worth paying attention to.

For many young people, figuring out a career can feel like something they must do alone, often learning important lessons only after they have entered the workplace. Through Career Insights, Gift is creating a space where some of those conversations can begin earlier.

It took her two years to begin. For the young people she wants to reach, the hope is that it won’t take them nearly as long.
